Happy Independence Day!
I hope everyone has a fun and safe Fourth of July!

Yesterday the greatest question was decided which ever was debated in America; and a greater perhaps never was, nor will be, decided among men. A resolution was passed without one dissenting colony, "that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States."
- John Adams, on the decision to proclaim independence from British rule, which was made on 2 July 1776, in a letter to Abigail Adams

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck

Written for the [info]team_sga  AU ficathon...

Title: Someone Else's Story
Rating: PG-13 for a bad word or two
Prompt: From </a></b></a>[info]tielan: An AU where the character roles are all mixed up. So, say, John's from Athos, Teyla's a Runner, Ronon's a scientist, and Rodney's military - or any combination thereof. But they should still be recognisably them in personality, even if their backgrounds and abilities are entirely different.
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: I don't own. Please don't sue.
Summary: All roads lead to one destination.
A/N: Another version of this story might appear, because even though I didn't have as much time as I wanted to flesh out all the possibilities, I really enjoyed doing this. A huge thank you to the wonderful mods for organizing this ficathon and for being so flexible and understanding! This has probably been the most hectic few months to try to participate in a ficathon, and I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate their hard work and flexibility in the matter. Thank you!!

Long ago, in someone else's story, someone with my name who looked a lot like me.... )

I will hurt someone if this happens. Seriously.

Thank goodness it's just a rumor.

I handed in my story for the [info]sga_genficathon. I don't know that I'm happy with it, but there it is. :(

Oh, well, no use crying over spilled ink. On to my [info]team_sga  fics....

Can anyone do a last minute and very quick beta for me?  It's for a ficathon (and I'm very tardy with it!), team-centered. I just want to make sure that it all makes sense and that I won't embarrass myself when I turn this in. *sheepish smile*

This is a random question for all the fic writers on my f-list....

I've been trying to come up with plots for three ficathon fics over the past week with little success. Granted, I've been thinking with a fever-addled brain for most of the time, but still...

The question is (and I'm sure all fic writers ask this now and again), where do your fic ideas/plots come from?  Do they blindside you as you're driving to work or in the shower? Do you sit down and consciously think about how to get from one point to another within a fic (i.e. you want to write a gen action fic with Ronon H/C and you fill in bits and pieces from there)? Do you find it helps to bounce ideas off of other people?

My mind has lately been in 'ship mode and it's a little hard to turn that off and concentrate on gen only.

*sigh* Help would be greatly appreciated....I'm feeling a little frustrated.

Title: A Not So Silent Night
Rating: PG
Characters: Just about the entire Firefly & Atlantis crews
Pairings: A lot of hints toward Mal/Inara, Simon/Kaylee, Ronon/River, and John/Teyla
Summary: Teyla enjoys the silence aboard Serenity...what little there is to be had.
A/N: This is the third piece of my Firefly/Atlantis fusion world...thingy. It's a long time coming. The first two installments are When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Hire Out and These Things Never Go Easy.

Serenity was quiet for once. No voice raised in anger, annoyance, or panic. No shouts of laughter. No explosions or gunshots. Just the gentle hum of engines. )

So, a long, long time ago, I started writing a series of Atlantis AUs. Then I got busy with my thesis and finding a job, and a took a big step away from fandom in general, and, well, I just didn't get around to finishing them. But one of my resolutions is to finish up my WIP fics (and, oh, are there a freakishly large amount), so here we go.

Just a little note: I got this idea from [info]rageprufrock 's totally awesome series '10 aus i am totally not writing' (which everyone should check out). The AUs I wrote are mostly John/Teyla in nature or at least feature them heavily, although there are several gen fics and most of the characters we know and love make an appearance. There are ten total, and I'm going to try desperately to post one a day. Just a warning: there will be crack. A lot of crack.

And a big thank you to [info]tielan who provided some much needed encouragement along the way. :)

Title: SGA AUs I'd Never Even Think of Writing (and These Are Not Them) 1/10
Rating: PG-13 for the whole series
A/N about the original fandom: New Amsterdam was a short-lived show about a New York cop who is, for all practical purposes, immortal. He is cursed to live until he finds his true love. Consequently, he’s lived for about 400 years, had numerous wives, and more than a few descendents. It was cracktastic.
